Surviving the wasteland requires constant trading. While the web dashboard offers a global, automated market, you will also encounter physical NPC Merchants scattered throughout the Second Life grid. The most renowned amongst them is Atavar.
Who is Atavar?
Atavar is a hardened post-apocalyptic survivor. He is known for his ironic sense of humour, often remarking that "better a little radiation than facing the Black Death" when discussing the state of the world.
As a local trader, he provides immediate access to essential survival tools, healing items, and basic resources. Unlike the fluctuating web-based market, Atavar offers goods at fixed, predictable prices in Linden Dollars (L$). Finding an Atavar merchant can be the difference between life and death when you are out of Stamina or critically low on Health Points.
Purchasing Goods
To interact with an NPC Merchant, simply approach and click on them. A secure menu will appear, detailing their current inventory. Select the item you wish to purchase, and the merchant will present you with the final cost. You are given exactly 10 seconds to complete the payment via the standard Second Life payment window.
Once paid, the system automatically and instantly credits the purchased items directly to your database profile, ready to be used from your HUD.
Real-Time Synchronisation
NPC Merchants like Atavar are fully integrated into the global Mundus network. Their prices and inventory are synchronised in real-time with the central servers. Furthermore, if a server error occurs during your transaction, the merchant is programmed to automatically issue a full refund, ensuring your investments are always protected.
Owning an Atavar
Any resident can purchase a copy of Atavar to place a private merchant on their own lands. Owning an Atavar turns you into an affiliate of the Vortex network! Whenever other players purchase items from your Atavar, you instantly receive a 10% commission directly to your Second Life L$ balance. Alternatively, you can use your own Atavar to purchase items for yourself, effectively giving you a 10% discount on all survival goods!
Beyond the direct financial benefits, the ultimate strategic goal of owning an Atavar (or any other interactive Vortex object) is to increase player traffic on your lands. Because every active Atavar is globally tracked and displayed on the Mundus page with a direct teleport link, having one on your parcel acts as a beacon, constantly attracting wandering survivors and potential customers directly to your doorstep.
