When you are far from a Recovery Camp, your best bet for survival is a warm meal. The Cooking system allows you to combine raw ingredients at a Campfire to create powerful consumable food that restores your Health and Stamina instantly.
How Cooking Works
To cook, you first need to find a Campfire in the wasteland. When you click a Campfire, it will instantly search your memory for all the recipes you have learned and present them in a menu. Select the dish you wish to prepare, and the Campfire will deduct the necessary raw ingredients from your inventory.
Wait a few seconds for the meal to cook, and once finished, the fresh food item will be delivered straight to your avatar. Attach (wear) the food item to consume it and regain your strength!
Learning Recipes
You cannot cook something if you don't know the recipe! In the wasteland, you will occasionally find or trade for Recipe Papers. By using one of these papers, the knowledge of that recipe is permanently written into your brain. Once learned, you can never forget it, and you can cook it as many times as you want (as long as you have the ingredients).
When you use a Recipe Paper, you will be asked to confirm if you want to learn it. If you accept and you successfully learn it, the paper disintegrates. However, if you already know the recipe, the system will warn you and the paper will NOT be destroyed! This allows you to safely check recipes without fear of losing them, so you can sell or donate duplicate recipes to other survivors in Second Life!
