The Wasteland is a world scarred by catastrophe. The very atmosphere has been corrupted by decades of radiation, chemical warfare, and ecological collapse. Survivors who ignore the climate do so at their own peril — the weather of Vortex is not merely a cosmetic backdrop; it is an active, lethal force that shapes every aspect of daily survival.
🌡 The Wasteland Climate System
The Vortex climate engine operates on a dynamic cycle, rotating through distinct weather events that affect all active survivors across the region simultaneously. The current weather state is always visible on the Live Weather Monitor and on the Mundus Tracker.
☀️ Weather Types & Their Effects
Clear Wasteland Skies
Hazard Level: Safe — No HP, Stamina, or Sanity drain. Normal thirst rate. Recommended for exploration and long-distance travel.
☢ Radiation Storm
Hazard Level: Lethal — Severe HP and Sanity drain per tick outdoors. Anti-radiation tablets (crafted at Chemistry Stations) reduce exposure by up to 50%. Seek reinforced shelters immediately.
🌧 Acid Rain
Hazard Level: High Danger — Corrosive precipitation burns exposed skin and contaminates standing water. Do not drink from puddles or open sources. Anti-acid tablets provide partial protection. Any roofed structure offers shelter.
🌪 Sandstorm / Dust Storm
Hazard Level: High Danger — Visibility near zero and severe Stamina drain. Vehicles are unreliable. Seek enclosed shelter and wait out the event.
🌫 Toxic Fog
Hazard Level: High Danger — Corrosive fog causes HP and Sanity drain per tick. Respiratory filters reduce exposure. Do not rest in open areas.
🔴 Blood Moon
Hazard Level: Extreme — All mutant spawn rates dramatically increased. Rare loot drops are boosted for those who fight. Travel in groups. Fortify your camp with barricades and defensive traps.
⚡ Electrical Storm
Hazard Level: High Danger — Random lightning strikes in exposed areas. Avoid all high ground, trees, and metal structures. Seek low-lying dry shelter.
❄ Blizzard
Hazard Level: Moderate to High — Rapid hypothermia onset. Continuous Stamina and HP drain without a heat source. Campfires extend survival time. Insulated shelter is essential.
🏖 Seeking Shelter
During hazardous weather events the Shelter System is critical to survival. Active shelters are listed in real time on both the Mundus Tracker and the Weather Monitor. Shelter owners activate their objects via the Vortex HUD, making them visible to all survivors. Shelters may offer bonus protection depending on their tier.
📡 Monitoring the Weather
- In-HUD Display: Your Vortex HUD shows the current weather icon and a live countdown to the next event.
- Live Weather Page: Full hazard details, atmospheric effects, survival tips, and active shelters.
- Mundus Tracker: All active shelters and Wasteland objects in real time.
- Upcoming Forecast: The weather page lists the next four scheduled events so you can plan ahead.

💡 Survival Tips
- Always check the weather monitor before setting out on long journeys.
- Maintain a stockpile of protective consumables for each major weather type.
- Identify the nearest active shelter before a storm hits.
- Blood Moon events are the only weather type where venturing out is actively rewarded — but only in groups.
- Clear sky windows are prime opportunities for travel, scavenging, and base repairs.
- Coordinate with your guild to prepare collectively before a major event.
